Pure Brecken Badassery… A Week in Review …

Damn yo. This is some more insanity from Brecken. Girls got skills. Pure 3d style hooping. Gotta love it.

Hoop Technique – Burn – video

Late one night at the Flow Toys space, Spiral and I decided to take a break from shooting the Hoop Technique DVD and jam out. The dance floor has amazing lighting that transforms the space in an instant and was even more dramatic on the enormous backdrop we had setup. We kept the cameras rolling. Here’s a clip from that night.

This is an original track by Janaka Selekta & Madhu Rose. I’ve been in love with this track for months and am honored that they have allowed us to use it here and on the DVD. Madhu & Janaka have been working on this track for 3 years. The DVD will feature a recently remastered version with new vocals from Madhu.

Michelle Obama – The First Lady’s Hoop

First lady Michelle Obama hooped it up for health, hula hooped, that is, managing to get in an impressive 142 swivels before her hula hoop hit the ground. Jumping rope double dutch? Not so much. (Oct. 21)

“Mrs. Obama is no slouch in the hula hoop department.”

Ann – Summer Practice with Master Stevie Wonder

Here Ann goes again. This video is inspiring me to practice expressing more planes (and even the lack of a plane) in a shorter sequence of time. I’d swear Ann took Brecken’s workshop at Hoop Convergence on plane bridging as she’s definitely got it goin on.

Notice that she’s not rigorously aiming her performance toward the camera. If there were an audience around her, she would have aimed at almost everyone at some point. That’s easy enough to do by focusing toward one direction then the next sequentially but what I’m seeing evolve is style of moving that often aims in all directions. It gives a very different feel than the traditional sense of having a strict front and back.

For clarifications sake, everything I’m suggesting here applies predominantly to off body or angle hooping. It’s a little harder to fit on-body hooping into this planar model.

Playing with Fire

There are two short clips of our piece in this video montage of the Temple of Poi Union Square Fire Expo. You can see Josh at 3:25 and then I’m at 4:55.

This video is hot. Like re-entering orbit hot. Heather has speed to spare and moves to boot. All I can say is damn!
