Sharna Rose

The HoopLab on YouTube

The HoopLab channel on YouTube has 42 clips, featuring various hoopers (myself, Khan, Sharna Rose, Lucian, SaFire, Robb Mills and Grant’s even in there.) Each clip contains only one or two moves and although they’re not exactly “how-to” clips, most have slow motion demos. There is enough material here to practice for years.

HoopLab was an experiment that came and went, a small collective bound through a ning site, working to develop new moves and advance hooping.

Sharna Rose – Continual horizontal neck duck outs

I can tell you from trying, this move is at least as hard as it looks. The front crossover is unbelievably difficult but here Sharna is, going at it as always. I can’t help but love her : )

One day this will be really smooth and go for longer but for now I’ve got three full rotations down, to get it in flow is my next objective as well as making it smooth and great to look at. If I look out I always f*** it up : -)

5 beat turns – Sharna Rose

These moves kick my ass and I love it! I got the 3-beat down. Then last weekend I finally got the underhand 3-beat down. I can now 180 from an underhand 3-beat to an overhand 3-beat. When I first got the underhand 3-beat I was literally jumping up and down with excitement. That one move took over a month of head scratching for me. So I also have an overhand 5-beat variation in the bag but these turns that Sharna is doing look wicked hard. This is going to take a while :)

From Sharna:

Not sure what else to call them really….They are Safires’s 5 beat weave, done exactly as described in the other vid clip and then you do a Lucian turn (I call this turn a Lucian turn because he inspired this move for me). Ideally you then continue to the other side and 5 beat it. On my left I got lazy with the 5 beat and was rolling/throwing the hoop instead of grabbing with one hand so this side is way messier. It really tires my brain this combo :-)

Sharna’s AntiSpin Flower

This photo makes me think of something I said at the NorthWest Hoop Gathering. If you don’t know what you are drawing, then you are probably scribbling. Sharna Rose definitely knows what she’s drawing here. This is an Antispin Flower with one psihoop. Time lapse photos really illuminate why I like to distill my motions down to the essence of the diagram. Sharna very literally drew I diagram with her hoop.
