LYRICS:

Now Im in the blogosphere, Now I’m in the twitterverse
Fans get so immersed, But I’m a nerd forever
I’m the new Zuckerberg, And since my website
I been cookin dough like a chef servin killa-bytes
Used to be the basement, Back at my mom’s place
Buildin web traffic so that we could sell an ad space
Make way for the, One man businesses
Bail outs finished with, White collar criminals
New sega genesis, Entrepreneur time
Makin big plans, To dominate the online
Yeah, I’m on YouTube, this is one man
Sharin’ google revenue, With songs on my webcam
Science is the new art, Databases day to day
Geeks spreadin’ sheet smarts, Hustle, make the data pay
I could be in Valleywag plus Geekologie
Tell from my avatar, That I’m most definitely

The New Dork,
Social networks – what dreams are made of, There’s nothing you can’t do
Now you’re the New Dork
This V.C. money is brand new, The geek is now damn cool
Let’s hear it for new dorks, new dorks, new dorks

Catch me up in Techcrunch, Right on the homepage
Hell, I’m on Gizmodo, In a photo bout a phone craze
And Im up in Mashable, weekend trip to New York
Bar pitty, 1oak, parties full of New Dorks
Now I’m pitchin business plans, From the backs of napkans
Micro-lend to Africans, Monetize Kazakastan
Catch me up on linked-in, Dog, C.E.O.
You can see where I be, With the I.P.O.
Now I’m up in skinny jeans, Now a hipster’s lurkin’
Used to be a reject, But now I’m steady jerkin’
Now my glasses mainstream, Now the girlies eyein me
Popular kids copy me, The new swag is irony
Comin’ from the small time, Girls couldn’t find me
Now I scale models, Like I climb on top of Heidi
Start big trends, with tweets that I pass on
You should follow me, cuz I’m friends with Ashton

The HoopLab on YouTube

The HoopLab channel on YouTube has 42 clips, featuring various hoopers (myself, Khan, Sharna Rose, Lucian, SaFire, Robb Mills and Grant’s even in there.) Each clip contains only one or two moves and although they’re not exactly “how-to” clips, most have slow motion demos. There is enough material here to practice for years.

HoopLab was an experiment that came and went, a small collective bound through a ning site, working to develop new moves and advance hooping.

Couch Surfing for Hooper’s – Hoop City, The Homestay project.

Hoop City seems to be kicking it up a notch. The Homestay Project is sorta like what many of us have done for a while. It’s essentially a way to couch surf for hooper’s. Khan has been doing this for a while and has hosted more hoopers at his place than anyone I know. SaFire’s new project seems like the logical extension of what Khan has been doing for a long time.

Hoop City has a BRAND NEW Feature that I’ve created to help hoopers connect worldwide in a face to face setting. The Hoop City Homestay Directory will allow hoopers to stay with other hoopers when they travel.
Travelling can be one of the most amazing experiences in the world but sadly many people never have the opportunity. Conflicts like time, money and responsibilities prevent us from taking off on our own journey and experiencing live to the fullest. The Hoop City Homestay Directory was created to encourage Hoop City members to take a break from the daily grind and enjoy a holiday away from home. The directory below includes only Hoop City Citizens that have agreed to participate in the Homestay Directory. Feel free to contact them if you are visiting their hometown and need a place to stay for a few nights.

SaFire’s Hooping Manifesto – “Love the Process”

I can’t help but love this woman. This is a wonderful and inspiring clip that is excellently edited as well. Check SaFire’s online hooping community at HoopCity.Ca. Love the process is right!

5 beat turns – Sharna Rose

These moves kick my ass and I love it! I got the 3-beat down. Then last weekend I finally got the underhand 3-beat down. I can now 180 from an underhand 3-beat to an overhand 3-beat. When I first got the underhand 3-beat I was literally jumping up and down with excitement. That one move took over a month of head scratching for me. So I also have an overhand 5-beat variation in the bag but these turns that Sharna is doing look wicked hard. This is going to take a while :)

From Sharna:

Not sure what else to call them really….They are Safires’s 5 beat weave, done exactly as described in the other vid clip and then you do a Lucian turn (I call this turn a Lucian turn because he inspired this move for me). Ideally you then continue to the other side and 5 beat it. On my left I got lazy with the 5 beat and was rolling/throwing the hoop instead of grabbing with one hand so this side is way messier. It really tires my brain this combo :-)

Sharna’s 5-beat weave

I didn’t think this was physically/conceptually possible but then Sharna goes and posts a video of it. I’ve been drilling this all weekend and I’m getting close to having it smooth but it’s a serious test of my co-ordination. I love moves like this that really stretch the boundaries of co-ordination.

Here is a description of the process from Sandra Safire:

Here’s a breakdown of what happens. If you try to keep your hands on the hoop the whole time it’s stupid awkward and the can’t stay completely opposite of each other and flow is lost while crossing in front of the body. When you bring the hoops across your body you have to roll one over the back of your hand in order to even move out of that position.
Try it with surface switches. (I don’t even know if that’s a good name because you actually let go of the hoop, I usually use this term for switching from the outside to the inside of the hoop or vice versa)
With service switches: Do the 3 beat and then reach over as if you were going to add the next beat only instead of breaking your wrists, grab both hoops into one hand and spin them in infinity (Infinity: two hoops held to look like an 8 or infinity symbol.) This will give you time to bring your free hand around to snatch it’s previous hoop and flow to the opposite side.
When the hoops are on my right I carry both hoops using my left hand and vice versa on the opposite side. I support the carried hoop with my thumb”

Hmm, I’ve been doing it with a little throw. Back to practice….

SaFire in the Sun

Wow. This is the first hooping video that made me tear up since Ann’s Sustained Stall video to Imogen Heap. I love how Sandra does several difficult moves that you don’t even notice because she does them so flawlessly. The one-handed helicopter?!? You’re not gonna see that one anywhere else folks and she has it polished to perfection. Her moves just express the freedom of her motion. Speechless.

BTW… She’ll be at the NorthWest Hoop Gathering. There are a few things I’m gonna get her to show me for sure.
