So SaFire hit me up precompression and said she’d been playing with partner hoop stuff. We gotta get on this folks. There is so much unexplored ground here. My mind hesitates to imagine a four beat partner pattern with hoops but I can’t wait to try it.
Khan posted this on Facebook the other day and I’d have to say it’s the most impressive object manipulation video I’ve seen in a while. I hesitate to call it a poi video because of the amazing crossover he blends between poi, contact ball and meteor. Cyrille is a spinner from France who performed in the Flow Show last year. I didn’t know him prior to that event but he was probably the most mind blowing performer for me. His meditative stage presence was enrapturing while the moves were so technically difficult they were difficult to contemplate.
This has totally blown my mind and opened up a bunch of new doors for me. Last week after the Temple of Poi Fire Expo, Bax, Ann, Lauren, Khan, Tuana and a I headed over to the Vulcan for an afterparty. It was a packed house with everyone spinning as always over there. Brian of Code Red Circus Conspiracy had Greg demo a Continuous Assembly Pattern (CAPs) with Poi. It took only a few minutes before I had this extension/antispin pattern figured out. Rephrasing this as CAPs made me rethink some of the other moves I’m already doing. At FireDrums, Matt (also of Code Red) mentioned that you could do it Split Time Opposite with doubles and then you would be getting (sorta) into hybrids. I’m super excited by all the concepts happening in this motion. I’ll try and explain more over the next few days. I busted my video camera so I won’t be able to post video for a few days.
This video by Alien Jon shows what I think is a Split Time Opposite Extension/Antispin CAPs. If I’m wrong on this terminology, please let me know. I can do this with my mini hoops now cleanly. It’s actually not all that difficult.
This is sloppy as hell but the elements are all there. This is an overhand thread the needle crossover 180 to a underhand thread the needle. Khan showed me it with poi then he and I talked it through to the hoop version. It’s much harder with hoops than poi. I need to clean up my underhand thread the needle before this will look any good.
Khan showed me this video last night. The technical skill level of Yuta and Ronan is unbelievable. If you get a chance and have the interest, look up “Vulcan Tech Blog” on YouTube.
