2010 Hoopies

Well the hoopies are hear again. Wow. I am honored that Spiral and I were nominated for Hoop Instructor of the year.

Here’s why I think we deserve it…. there are two of us ;) If you vote for anyone else you’re only voting to give a Hoopie to one person. Don’t she and I deserve a half a Hoopie each? Just sayin…

Kidding aside, with the intensity of this year closing, it would be an amazing honor to receive that award. I’m not needing any accolade though since I have this project finished and that is amazing in and of itself.

On top of that, Spiral was nominated for female hooper of the year… again. She has been nominated every single year of the Hoopies and I’d love to see her receive it finally. That said, their are some brilliant talented women completely deserving of this award on the list. It’s a tough field.

Thank you everyone! About to put more DVD’s in the mail.

World of Abundance or World of Scarcity?

It’s two days past Christmas. I’m hunkered down in my childhood home back in Colorado avoiding the retail rush of Christmas sales and returns, not simply because our consumptive society drives me slightly batty, but also because I’m one month into a seismic shift in my main income source – and funds are tight. It’s that moment that every risk-taking entrepreneur faces – the moment your ideas are put the test of profit and loss. The numbers are no longer projections in a spreadsheet. The game is real now and rent, that staggeringly large San Francisco number, aloof and uncaring, is still due on the 1st.

I’m so happy about the merging of Cosmic Fire and Hoopdrum “to become one powerhouse of freed up schedules, more efficient services, and one bad-ass product. The best of both worlds. Synergy Firehoops, was born.”

I’ve used a lot of firehoops and stand behind that statement. If you are looking for the most responsive firehoop on the market, Synergy is making it. Their hoops feel very close to a regular hula hoop… but you get to play with fire :) Julia, Shakti, Rainbow and Scott have innovated to create my favorite firehoop products.

Playa Moop – The Spin Cycle

I always await anxiously for the post Burning Man Playa Moop (Matter Out Of Place) map to come out. Preliminary map images are now being leaked.

While we did well on our moop, I’m sad to say the Spin Cycle had some yellow in our camp this year. We’re about 85% green with about 15% yellow. I’m surprised we weren’t solid green given how thorough and diligent our crew was. Ultimately it’s still respectably clean but we pride ourselves on Leaving No Trace. Surprisingly where my crew, the Vandersloots, were camped is where we received the yellow rating. Overall, thank you to everyone who camped with us for doing a good job of mooping. Next year 100% green guaranteed.

NOELTECH#9: Brian Thompson Hoops

Just back from Hoop Camp and found this! What?!?! This is incredible. Brian’s workshop was great and this video blows my mind.

edIT – Pound 4 Pound – Free Download

Pretty good and it’s free. Looking forward to finding time to post a Burning Man hoop update but it might not happen until after Hoop Camp and the Hoop Technique tour up to Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. Also in the works, Brecken and I are planning a hooping podcast. The first should be out in a few weeks. Basically we’re gonna shoot the shit and talk about hooping. She and I have such epic conversations on our own, we’ll see if they translate to podcast. Sounds like fun to me.

Firedrums VII – 2010

I miss Firedrums. There’s a short clip of me in this vid and some epic fire spinning. Gotta remember to get my tickets quick this year as they sold out in only a few hours last year.

Back from Boulder… on to Fiji

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ::: Mark Twain

I yanked that quote and photo from Sara’s family website which I would encourage you to check out: here

I’m overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunities in my life right now. I’m just back from teaching a workshop in Boulder. The class was enthusiastic, committed, and skilled. Boulder has to be one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. Now I have one day to shift gears and hop on a plane to Fiji to help design GaiaTree. Wow. Life is exploding. The video below is also from Sarah and the Happy Janssens :)

i have so much more to write and so little time. About to head to bed. Time to make my insane to-do list for tomorrow, the last day in the US prior to Fiji. On top of that I return and go straight to the Burn. Wow. Thank you universe.

PS. Danielle is the best host ever. She and Nick are some pf the best fire hoopers I’ve ever seen. Also, Mary and Cat’s trek from Iowa for our workshop help inspire me to keep doing this. So many more.
