I actually haven’t even seen these yet but I’m excited to get a set. Apparently I’m the King of Spades. Hah. I’m such a dark character! Ahhhh haaa haaa ha!!! jk :)
As far as I know Philo is the Jack of Diamonds, Khan is the Jack of Hearts, Spiral is the Queen of Spades, Michelle Clark is the 7 of Clubs, Kamala Mathis is the 9 of Hearts, Deanne Love is 7 of Hearts and I have no inside info on this but I’d bet just about anything that Stefan is one of Jokers if not both. I can’t wait to see them all!
This clip opens with Nick killing it at our annual hoop jam. I love making this event happen :) We had Ill Gates and Sidecar Tommy from Beat’s Antique DJ for us this year. Who will we have next year? I have no idea.
Making the hoop jam happen has been a labor of love. It’s a lot of work. I’ve hunted down CDJs (which are like gold on the playa), I’ve purchased turn table coffins on craigslist in order to protect DJ equipment, we’ve toasted thousands of dollars of sound equipment do to unexpected playa problems… but we’ve held a vision though out that the hoop community should be considered a significant community, worthy of top tier DJs. Every year Grant and I (with the help of many others) have advanced this a bit. It’s been a wild ride but we love doing it and can’t wait to step it up even further next year.
Our hope is to fundraise enough cash to build the sound system up. We’re looking to raise about $8k to purchase 4 new subs and towers. Our current sound system is awesome, and very high fidelity, but we’re pushing it to the maximum with the size audiences we have had in the last two years. If we want to keep this going, we’re going to become a small sound camp, even if only for one night on the playa.
Jon is amazing. When he started spinning at Electric Forest my mind was blown. I’ve never seen a guy able to do sustained spinning like he does. He’s looking for a Burning Man ticket and hopefully will be camping with The Spin Cycle.

I apologize for being slow on this but I wanted to post a class outline. I decided to teach an incredibly challenging sequence and everyone was able to get most of the parts, and about a 1/3 were able to assemble it all together. This sequence is my big tada sequence and so many could do it!
So here’s the sequence:
Overhead spin counter-clockwise on right hand
underarm reverse, hoop bounces off left side of your back (left arm extended, hoop on right wrist), return to over head clockwise
behind the back pass, catch with left hand, thumb point ing the direction of the hoops travel, palm toward ground
nunchuka pass, elbow to the sky, lean to the right, catch with right hand, catch with your right hand in your armpit! Pass to right hand pinky in direction of hoops travel, palm toward ground.
Reverse off of lower back. Back to overhead counter clockwise spin.
Pass to left hand.
Drop hoop around body to left leg. Hoop isolating as it drops. Isolation spin in counter-clockwise direction.
Right leg step-out.Hoop will bounce off of the back of your right knee reversing it’s direction back to clockwise.
Pass from leg to right hand.Hoop slides down leg to foot. Foot hands the hoop to your right hand in front of your body.
The sequence isn’t completed in this old vid but all the parts are there. This vid is right around the time I pieced this all together.
Also, I’d like to post the vid of the first day Beth and I hooped together at Mission Delores. This was also the day I met Khan, who quikly became one of my best friends.
After bagging on the new EP “We Can Make The World Go Round,” I stumbled onto this GM vid. They rarely disappoint and this video got me hyped. I’m stickin by my first thoughts on the EP though.
