Hooping… Architecture… Whatnot…
Local events and more.
Damn Nick is sick. Nicely done. I’ll be teaching at Spin Summit! Come play :) These folks have set up an amazing event that I’m stoked to be a part of.
I can’t believe FireDrums sold out in 10 minutes this year! Well I guess I can believe it but that shocking. I tried to log in 10 minutes after they went on sale hit a roadblock with the Firedrums website, and missed the window of opportunity. Lucky for me, despite being on a circus tour, Spiral managed to purchase two tickets on her laptop backstage from a performance. So I will be able to go again this year :) This will be my fourth year at the event and I’ve taught there the last two years.
Not only will I be teaching at The Hoop Path Retreat, I’ll also be working the stripper pole.

Seriously, the event is sounding amazing and I cannot wait. I highly recommend the bus. Save yourself stress and save the planet by sharing a ride. You’ll be glad you did.

Love it :) Happy you’re home safe Rosie. Nice job on the vid! Inspiring.
Rosie has been one of my closest and most supportive friends for years now. When I first considered teaching a hoop workshop, Rosie was the first person I talked to about it. With nerves and trepidation I drove to consult with her at beautiful island sanctuary. When I first moved to SF, Rosie was the first person to invite Lauren and I to a social gathering, her Birthday party. It meant so much to us. That was so long ago now with so much water under the bridge (the bay bridge that is :) Thank you Rosie. You’re amazing.
Looking forward to Rosie’s homecoming party in just a little over a week. Come out and join us! The place sounds like a pretty swanky venue.

Popped online for one second waiting for Final Cut to finish rendering and found this. Tears running down my face. This is why I hoop. i can’t wait to have the project off by back and reconnect with the community I love so much. I specifically had tears rolling down my face as soon as I saw Beth but was near tears from Tink’s into.
Saw this on Burning Dan‘s page (R.I.P.) Heartbreaking to see him gone but so uplifting to see his legacy grow even stronger in his passing. This video is beautiful and this article nails the ideas that are growing that Dan shared and promoted.
I didn’t know Dan well. I worked with him briefly on the Kindle Art Magazine firehoop review and spent a week collaborating with him at the Flowspace. His energy was so bright and so positive. I’ve cried many times that’s he’s gone. He was a bright soul. The first time we met was after many online interactions and his enthusiasm made me love him at first sight. We’ll miss you Dan. Your passion will live on.

He’ll be missed by us all. I’m sure we’ll have a moment at least at FireDrums next year. He was such a key figure. His death is an unprecedented tragedy in the fire spinning community of which he was a pioneer.
To all the friends and family of Dan, my heart is with you.
I always await anxiously for the post Burning Man Playa Moop (Matter Out Of Place) map to come out. Preliminary map images are now being leaked.
While we did well on our moop, I’m sad to say the Spin Cycle had some yellow in our camp this year. We’re about 85% green with about 15% yellow. I’m surprised we weren’t solid green given how thorough and diligent our crew was. Ultimately it’s still respectably clean but we pride ourselves on Leaving No Trace. Surprisingly where my crew, the Vandersloots, were camped is where we received the yellow rating. Overall, thank you to everyone who camped with us for doing a good job of mooping. Next year 100% green guaranteed.
SF weekly just posted about Khan’s show this weekend. Can’t wait to see it! Khan, Aileen, Theo and Bliss have been hard at work on this show for months and it’s finally about to launch.
‘Fire’ in a Crowded Theater
By Chris Trenchard
We’ve suspected for some time that those fireball-on-a-stick Dolores Park Burners might not be native to Earth, what with our big buildings and fire codes and flammable clothing and all. We earthlings like our fires in pits and stoves — and when they’re on stages of any type, we keep extinguishers within reach. Firemaster Khan Wong and his Flow Show represent a different type of unearthly fire-dancer in “Portal: the Circlemakers.”
