It’s hard to post this. Cheb I Sabbah isn’t doing well. If you made the 2009 Burning Man Hoop Jam, you know Chebiji. Many will know Chebiji from Bassnectar’s track linked at the bottom. I grew up hooping to this track.
Years later, Lauren and I had the opportunity to meet and connect with him a several times through dinner parties at Janaka’s with our deer friend Saba.
Janaka called me from the hospital the other day as I was boarding a plane to North Carolina. Chebiji has stomach cancer, no insurance, and he’s not doing well. On July 8th, Janaka and friends are organizing a fundraiser to get Chebiji the help he needs.
Dear Friends and Fans of Cheb i Sabbah:
Recently, our dear friend and musical pioneer Cheb i Sabbah was diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer at San Francisco General Hospital. He was advised that the cancer was spreading to his liver and left lung. Without immediate and proper treatment, the prognosis given is very grim. The phrase “weeks maybe months” was repeated to a devastated group of close friends and family who were there to support him as he received the heartbreaking news.
