Monday: Bridging Planes
The first class is an exercise in broadening the range of planar possibilities and accentuating the ones of your choosing. Designed initially to uncover horizontal/vertical transitions, it utilizes a somewhat visual holistic approach in creating a personal terrain for exploration that subverts the rigidness of the plane mentality, but allows for use of those planes when technical elements are applied.

Tuesday: Poise & Finesse
We can direct our breath toward forming channels to create lines as …let’s call them “emotional highways” for promoting elongation, lightness, and torque when it comes to the hoop. Pulling in to isolation techniques, it’s another method for expanding the range of focus, pairing explosive movements with more intimate ones and making everybody jealous. Several of the exercises are inspired by modern dance (a.k.a. you tube), but applied to hooping over a few months of trial and error. Time permitting, I’d like to tie it into the methods of the previous class and initiate the baddest hoop jam ever did doned. Teehee.

I’m just getting settled back in from a terrific weekend at the NorthWest Hoop Gathering. The event caught the attention of the local newspaper and yesterday we were on the cover of the local section of The Bulletin.

Hoopers learn how to spin a hoop with their hands during a diagrammatic hooping class taught by Rich Porter on Saturday at the Evolution of Flow Northwest Hoop Gathering at Summit High School. About 100 hoop enthusiasts from as far away as the United Kingdom are in Bend this weekend for the three-day hooping event.

Join us once again at the Vulcan for a fun-filled weekend of workshops and entertainment. The isolation scientists are at it again, this time bringing their technical skills to the hoop dance community. This is a unique opportunity to study isolations with two of the most skilled object manipulation style hoopers in the world.

Code Red Circus Conspiracy is Brian Thompson and Matt McCorkle. They live and play at the Vulcan in Oakland, CA. Together they create unique entertainment by using a blend of juggling, dance, theater, comedy, and object manipulations.

This class will introduce you to object manipulation (OM) style hooping.

This class will explore new moves through looking at the hoop’s relationship to space rather than the hoop’s relationship to the body. We will focus on the geometric patterns created by isolations and anti-spin with an emphasis on high-contrast transitions. You will learn basic anti-spin, anti-spin quadrants, isolation variations, isolation transitions (isopops & isobreaks), working with different isolated points and more. Once we learn different geometries, they can be combined to create new interesting flow patterns. I will also be introducing theories relating to creating 2d and 3d patterns.

Join Miss Rosie and Rich Porter for this Intermediate/Advanced Drop-In Forum.

What it is: Three classes over three weeks for intermediate and advanced hoopers to bring their questions on moves and tricks with a single hoop.

How it works: The class will be loosely structured, and will offer students a space to hoop and ask questions as they come up. Some material will also be planned by Rosie & Rich.

How to prepare: Make a list of moves you have questions on, and bring it to class.

Who it’s for: Hoopers of an intermediate or advanced level. Fundamental techniques will not be covered in these classes.

Details: Rosie will teach on the first and third classes, while Rich will be assisting. The second class will be led by Rich, with Rosie co-teaching. This class will not cover Twins hooping.
