Hoop Technique – Burn – video

Late one night at the Flow Toys space, Spiral and I decided to take a break from shooting the Hoop Technique DVD and jam out. The dance floor has amazing lighting that transforms the space in an instant and was even more dramatic on the enormous backdrop we had setup. We kept the cameras rolling. Here’s a clip from that night.

This is an original track by Janaka Selekta & Madhu Rose. I’ve been in love with this track for months and am honored that they have allowed us to use it here and on the DVD. Madhu & Janaka have been working on this track for 3 years. The DVD will feature a recently remastered version with new vocals from Madhu.

MiMosa – Pandora – “Psychedelic Stereo” EP Demo

This album will be released sometime in February. The only person more amped than me is probably Lauren. MiMosa is by far her favorite DJ to get down to on the dance floor. Hah… Brecken recently moved into MiMosa’s old room at the Vulcan in Oakland. Amazing things come out of that place.

Part of what Lauren and I love about the emerging dirty west coast wobble dub scene is the tempo. You get a house/trance/anything else for that matter DJ and they’ll likely be droppin 150 beats per minute (BPM). You talk to a happy hardcore DJ and they’ll be spinning 200+. Mimosa, Glitch Mob, and even BassNectar at this point are slowing things down. We’re back to 85-100 BPM. That’s very close to the Hip-Hop I grew up with, not to mention a lot of these DJ’s are remixing hip-hop tracks. This is the right pace for me to hoop too. If the music is too fast… I just hoop fast. If it’s a bit slower, I hoop slow but still can’t resist to break into fast fits.

Scarlet Harlot, Fire Shoot from Robb Pope on Vimeo.

This is some footage shot and edited by our friend Robb Pope, of Dijjital Productions. Robb will be editing the Hoop Technique DVD for Spiral and I. I’m actually upstairs in Spiral’s room right now while she’s downstairs in the Flow Toys dance studio rehearsing lines. I better get back before she realizes I’m up here screwing off.

Napalm Dragon – Slow Motion Fire Breathing

Thanks to my friends over at Kindle Magazine for posting this. This is some stunning footage of fire breathing shot at 2,000 frames per second.

Despite the difficulty of handling the enormous file sizes, Spiral and I are shooting the entire Hoop Technique DVD at 60 fps in HD. This will allow us to demo any portion of the footage in Slow Motion in HD. In fact, we’re doing that tomorrow :) Shooting is almost done! DVD shooting will be immediately followed by intense tour planning. The Hoop Technique Tour is going to be in full affect starting late February. We are both excited as all hell.

Street tumbling?!

This guy is breaking down tumbling like Brecken breaks down hooping for me. No rules… no plane… and no limitations. It’s straight up street tumbling.

Baxter core hoops (mostly) to “Night Falls” by Booka Shade

No introduction needed, here’s a new video from Bax… if you’re wanting tickets for his SF workshop, get them quick: here. He’s almost sold out, again :)

Booka Shade provides a sick hoop set. I love working on core hooping to it. If you like this track, you’ll probably like the whole album, “Movements.”

I never get tired of core hooping. That’s still my favorite way to hoop.

(For any HP out there, I was trying to keep a 2B2T emphasis.)

Hoop Convergence 2009

Hoop Convergence 2009 NEW! from Hoop Convergence on Vimeo.

Watching this video got me all jazzed up to go again. Many familiar faces will be there this year and some new teachers as well. I can’t wait!

It was absolutely epic last year. I left with so much inspiration and so many new friends. This event, and Hoop Camp as well, have created the national hooping community that is becoming very tightly knit.
