Waldemar tirelessly documents fire events from Firedrums to the Union Square Fire Expo to Burning Man. These are some of my favorite shots of me firehooping and I owe a big thanks to him. Check out the rest of his Firedrums 2009 gallery here.
These are Cosmic Fire Double Mini Firehoops available here.
This is harder than it looks folks and will be the focus of my practice tonight. Thank you Khan for posting this.
demo of the fountain, a move that comes from club swinging. poi spinners picked it up a while ago (i first learned it as a poi move and found out about its club swinging past later) and now it’s making its way to mini hoops! it’s a weave-based move, essentially weaves linked together with a high and low transition point. the transition between the forward and reverse weaves is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgGJBD…
Hoop City seems to be kicking it up a notch. The Homestay Project is sorta like what many of us have done for a while. It’s essentially a way to couch surf for hooper’s. Khan has been doing this for a while and has hosted more hoopers at his place than anyone I know. SaFire’s new project seems like the logical extension of what Khan has been doing for a long time.
Hoop City has a BRAND NEW Feature that I’ve created to help hoopers connect worldwide in a face to face setting. The Hoop City Homestay Directory will allow hoopers to stay with other hoopers when they travel.
Travelling can be one of the most amazing experiences in the world but sadly many people never have the opportunity. Conflicts like time, money and responsibilities prevent us from taking off on our own journey and experiencing live to the fullest. The Hoop City Homestay Directory was created to encourage Hoop City members to take a break from the daily grind and enjoy a holiday away from home. The directory below includes only Hoop City Citizens that have agreed to participate in the Homestay Directory. Feel free to contact them if you are visiting their hometown and need a place to stay for a few nights.
Alright.. I concede…
Grant is your’s Sharai. But you’ll never come between our man love. Unless you learn how to build shade structures and stuff. Then I’m f***ed.
I love so many people in these shots and the woman who took them. Thank you Marta! You can see the bags under my eyes from crying during the wedding, or maybe it’s just from being at Burning Man.
The shot below is hilarious. Taken outta context… could be quite confusing.
Fire Groove just posted some epic footage of their recent trip to Texas with a few of the “Fire All-Stars”. These kids know their stuff! They’ve brought together some extremely talented spinners, choreographed a serious piece capable of holding down an audience for 30+ minutes, then they wrap it all up in a glossy marketable package. You add in the hotness factor of Kamala and Hannah and hell, this show is ready for the road. In my eyes this is nearly an ideal formula for bringing spinning to a bigger audience, which they are doing.
The first video is fun, but the second showcases the actual performance.
Its that time again… another installment of Noeltech. If “TOG/SAM-SPLI/OPP-SPLI/SAM-TOG/OPP” makes sense to you, you deserve a gold star for the day. As geeky as it may seem, learning the basics of “Timing and Direction” will open years of practice spinning double hoops. The best examples I’ve seen describing timing and direction is the Poi technique DVDs by the Vulcan Crew, available here. Although it’s a poi DVD, much is applicable to double hoops.

I have yet to spin Cosmic Fire‘s new firehoop design, but I did get to feel these new wicks. They are significantly less floppy and lighter than the old wick designs. I’ve never had an issue with the small amount of flop that the old cable design had but I am interested to see how much weight this will shave. Shakti says this new design has started shipping. The old wicks are gone on all models. She also has some new developments in store that are quite revolutionary.
