LAZER SWORD – SWEATPANTS MONEY MIXTAPE

LS

Free Download: here

LAZER SWORD is the duo of San Francisco based LOW LIMIT and LANDO KAL. They like to make music that sounds like your favorite top 40 rap shit chopped up into a tornado filled with razor blades and molasses. Or maybe like Frank Zappa rocking the home made Lil John tank-top at the rooftop party.

LAZER SWORD made the SWEATPANTS MONEY MIXTAPE for one of their favorite websites; Nalden.net. A lifestyle blog for people who love to stay ahead of the curve. SWEATPANTS MONEY is featuring 26 tracks blended into a tornado of heavy LAZER SWORD beats with a cappella’s from artists like Ludacris, Jay-Z, M.I.A. & Eazy-E. As a big fan of the duo from SF, Nalden is pleased to host this mix especially made for his blog. Like the blog, the music of LAZER SWORD is to put it bluntly, really next level.

TheRumpus.net: An Interview with Ariane Conrad

3638869722_d74c01faf2

Check out this terrifically entertaining interview of Ariane Conrad, author of The Hooping Book: here

Rumpus: Right! The book. Let’s talk about this book. You and this mortal HoopGirl have written a guidebook to sex.

Conrad: Actually, it’s a guide to hooping, the modern form of hula hooping.

Rumpus: Oh come now. Let’s take a look… “activate the muscles in your legs to power your pelvic thrusts,” it says here.

Conrad: Right, in order to keep the hoop in orbit around your waist.

Rumpus: I think we both know you’re talking about sex. How about this: “Don’t anticipate; respond to it. Push into it when you feel it touch you.”

Blue Bottle Coffee: customer takes design into his own hands.

photo

The Blue Bottle Coffee kiosk beneath my architecture office is constantly busy, sometimes with lines exceeding 30 minutes in our Hayes Valley back alley. This morning as I approached our front door, I notices a new street addition across the street. Desiring more table space to set his drink, one of the regular customers took matters into his own hands. Across the street there have been two metal poles that sand about 40″ tall, the kind normally reserved for protecting building from people backing into them in a car. This clever customer decided that one of the poles would be the base for his new mobile table, seen in the photograph above. His plan is to bring it over to Blue Bottle everyday when he gets his coffee. His table top takes advantage of the sunny side of the street, where customers often just lean against a wall while drinking there morning coffee.

I’ll post more photos in the next few days as I find time to edit them. I had such a great time connecting with everyone and Carrboro is beautiful. Wow. More on the experience to come… I gotta get some sleep.

Flow In the Wasteland

Khan, Lauren and I shot this over the weekend. It’s been a while since I’ve made any videos and it felt great to see the stuff I’ve been developing on film. Khan demos his new found passion, club swinging as well as a bunch of his axial isolations that I am so fond of. Lauren shot most of the video of us in these remote warehouses down in the dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco. The three of us had a spectacular day and I can’t wait to do it again. Khan cranked out this elegant edit job in no time at all. The man has skillz.

The track is “Reborn” by Janaka Selekta off the Pushing Air album. The full album is available for listening here. Janaka is a close friend and producing some of Lauren and I’s favorite music, most of which is asian influenced dubstep. Thank you Janaka for allowing us to use this track. We listened to it for 6 hours on repeat while shooting : )

Cirque Berzerk – Accidents

From the twisted carnival of Cirque Berzerk:

It would be P.T. Barnum’s worst nightmare.
If he weren’t so dead.

It’s been called everything from “a circus on acid” to “French burlesque meets Sweeney Todd.” Cirque Berzerk’s unique flavor of adult psychedelic vaudevillian tomfoolery returns to the Los Angeles State Historic Park. Performances run Thursday, June 18th through Sunday, July 5th, 2009.

Born at Burning Man in 2005 and named one of “L.A.’s 10 Weirdest Events of 2008” by the Los Angeles Times, Cirque Berzerk has tickled the collective innards of L.A. and beyond with a psychotically-tinged sultry show filled with sinewy, breathtaking acrobatics, sensual aerialists, gothic stilt walkers, fetishy burlesque dancers, voluptuous contortionists and a host of punk rock clowns, none of whom know how to make cute balloon animals for the kiddies. “Wholesome family fun” it ain’t.

It seems like they are really stepping it up a notch with the production quality, graphics, website, videography, the whole bit. I wonder if Britney Spears might make a stop from her “Circus” tour to check this out? Hah.
